For electric vehicles, the UK requires all new homes to be equipped with charging piles.

A new UK proposal requires that all new homes be equipped with the ability to charge electric vehicles. In addition to residential areas, enterprise buildings, service stations near highways, and street parking spaces are also required to be equipped with electric vehicle charging piles.

To complete this infrastructure project, the UK government will invest 400 million pounds ($530 million) to fund companies that produce and install charging piles.

Last year, the British government followed the footsteps of European countries such as France and officially announced that it will completely ban gasoline and diesel vehicles from 2040. In terms of environmental protection policy, the UK government's goal is that by 2050, the country's carbon emissions will be reduced by more than 80% from 1990 levels.

In June 2018, hybrid and electric vehicles accounted for 5.5% of the UK's new car market, up from 4.2% in the same period in 2017. However, a study by the RAC Foundation found that the use of electric vehicles may be stagnant without a wide, reliable, and easy-to-use charging station. According to a survey by the Automobile Association, 80% of British drivers believe that the lack of charging piles is the biggest obstacle to their purchase of electric vehicles.

Building a nationwide charging infrastructure is a critical step in getting rid of fuel car reliance, but there are still many issues that need to be addressed to achieve this goal.

First of all, filling an electric car still takes more time than filling a fuel car. The current of the car charger and the household wall-mounted charging post is relatively small, generally around 16-32A, depending on the capacity of the battery pack, the charging time is 5 to 8 hours. Tesla's super-charged piles use a large current to charge the battery directly through the off-board charger. The current and voltage are generally 150-400A and 200-750V, and the charging power is greater than 50kW. Although its fast-charge technology is already industry-leading, it takes half an hour to fill 80%.

Secondly, in addition to the long time of charging, the short cruising range of electric vehicles is also a difficult problem, and the latter greatly aggravates the seriousness of the former. Many electric cars in general price can only last for 250 miles, less than half of gasoline or diesel-powered cars.

Again, the user's spending habits may not change so quickly. According to Bloomberg's report, according to the current growth rate, the annual sales volume of electric vehicles is expected to reach 58 million units by 2038, and the sales of fuel vehicles will be off five to five. However, due to the mainstream consumption of fuel vehicles in the past, the total number of electric vehicles in 2038 can only account for one-third of all cars.

Finally, from the perspective of the entire automotive industry, although many head car brands have invested heavily in the development of electric vehicles, the supply chain built by fuel vehicles for decades will take a long time to digest and transform.

The current car sales system is that car companies give sales to 4S stores, and then 4S stores sell cars to consumers. In this process, the car companies control most of the profits of selling cars, and the 4S stores control the profits of the customers, including insurance, maintenance, and maintenance. Electric cars don't need oil, and they don't require maintenance. The 4S shop has almost no incentive to sell electric cars.

Electric vehicles will bring about changes from the inside out to the entire automotive industry, and building the charging piles in the country is only the first step in completing a difficult problem.
